Uses for The Lawn Aerator

When summer arrives and the sun is shining, it is nice to have a great lawn to relax on, play on or just look at from the window. A lush, green lawn can improve the look of a home when it is in good shape and kept cut to the right length. You will make the whole neighborhood look welcoming when the lawn is green and being used for fun. It is a great way to enjoy a small amount of nature right at your own home and not travel to parks and field to find that piece of heavenly green grass.

A great way to promote growth for lawns is to keep it in shape with an aerator. Certain types of grass have thick roots and it can prevent water from being used to its full benefit. But with an aerator you can make small holes in the dirt around the grass to allow air and water to move and reach below the roots so growth will continue and the lawn remains green at all times. When you are ready to add vitamins and growth cells to your front lawn, use a good aerator to make sure it does not evaporate away before it gets a chance to build lawn strength.

Choose a simple fork or pitch fork to check your lawn. If it presses into the ground around the grass easily, then you do not need to use the aerator. But if you must use force to get past the grass to the dirt, then it is time to bring out the aerator and begin work. When the ground is hard the water will just roll off or evaporate and it does not provide enough feed to keep the lawn green in summer heat.

If you have a large lawn use a rolling aerator to cover all areas in a timely manner and water right away. If you have a small yard, you can purchase lawn aeration shoes. They just strap to your normal shoes and poke the holes into the dirt as you walk around. It is a great way to exercise or provide entertainment to the kids when they are bored. If you have a large area to do, you can use a rental aerator and do all the work in one day. It does not have to be done every day, so one day should be enough.

Have you walked on lawns and seen tiny pieces of dirt laying on top and wondered what kind of animal created it? It wasn't an animal at all! It was a hollow tine aerator. As it pokes the hole in the ground it removes a tiny piece and leaves it laying nearby. It just creates more room for the water, the lawn and the worms to move around and do their work.
